What is an adjustable pond pump?

With an adjustable pump, you can (as the name suggests) regulate the capacity of your pond pump. This can be done in two ways: adjusting the pump's power or blocking the inlet/outlet flow to reduce capacity. In the case of adjusting the power, you also save on energy costs when you adjust it downwards.

An adjustable pond pump is useful when you want to precisely determine the flow to a waterfall, stream, filter, or fountain.

What types of adjustable pond pumps are available?

At BluGarda, we have two types of pond pumps that are adjustable:

  1. Power adjustable with controller
  2. Capacity adjustable by blocking the inlet/outlet flow

In the case of a controller, you have exact control over the power of the pond pump. You can adjust the controller's capacity up and down. This saves you directly on energy as soon as you adjust it downwards.

By blocking the inlet/outlet flow, you ensure that less water flows through or out of the pump. With a simple rotary knob, you can determine the exact capacity.

Can a pump's power be reduced in winter?

In many cases, you can adjust your pump to a lower setting in winter. This allows you to run your filter and UV-C device at a lower capacity during the winter. If ice forms, for example, you can even turn off your fountain and pump completely.

Can I turn down an adjustable pond pump in autumn and winter?

In autumn and winter, you can often turn your adjustable pond pump down to a lower setting. In many cases, this helps save energy.

During the winter, your pond is less active, so less filtration and flow are needed to keep it healthy. You can then turn your pond pump down to a lower setting. For example, set it to 65% of its normal capacity in autumn and 30% in winter.

Tips:

  • Use a BluFlow Control 8.000 or BluFlow Control 15.000 with an external controller to easily save energy.
  • Always check the specifications of connected equipment. They may require a minimum flow rate.
  • During severe frost, remove equipment from your pond to prevent damage.
